Fasting in American History

Every generation of Americans and especially Christians have the great opportunity to strengthen the original spiritual vision of this country as set forth in our founding documents.

Statesmen, presidents, judges, governors, congressmen, senators, and cultural leaders all have clearly and forcibly emphasized throughout our history the importance of centering the nation’s hopes and liberty on God, and the need to implore Him for help. Many days of prayer and fasting have been called for throughout our history by leaders in public office with the full conviction that this collective action was essential to the public welfare, and would be rewarded.

“Come and see the works of God; He is awesome in His doing towards the sons of men.” – Psalm 66:5
